FILTER Mainman To Dedicate Next Album To Fallen Soldier

June 9, 2004

FILTER mainman Richard Patrick has posted the following message on the band's web site:

"I was saddened to learn of the passing of Sgt. Justin Eyerly (photo) who was killed in action while serving his country in Iraq. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Although he was only 23 years old, Justin contributed a great deal to the FILTER online community through the website he created and maintained since 1996. I was fortunate enough to have thanked him personally before his tour of duty. As a tribute to this courageous young man, whose passion for my music will not be forgotten, I will dedicate FILTER's upcoming album to his memory."

According to The Columbian, Justin Lynn Eyerly, whose family lived in Oregon, was killed in Iraq, along with two other Oregon Guardsmen, on June 4 when a roadside bomb exploded while they were on patrol.

Eyerly was a graphic artist in civilian life and a graduate of South Salem High School. He was studying graphic design at Portland State University and interned as a web site designer with the Portland Trailblazers to support himself through school. [Read more]
